COCHIN


Cochin is situated on the west coast of India in the beautiful state Kerala. It is flanked by the Arabian Sea on the western side and the Western Ghats on the eastern side. Cochin is the commercial capital and the most cosmopolitan city of Kerala. It is also known as the Queen of Arabian Sea. Cochin is also referred to as the Gateway to Kerala. With one of the finest natural harbors in the world, this was once a major centre for commerce and trade with Arabs, British, Chinese, Portuguese, Dutch etc..

Cochin Railway station is known as Ernakulam, 2 stations are there one is Ernakulam Town and other is Ernakulam Junction. Cochin Airport is around 40 kms / 1.30 hrs away from City.  Sight seeing places are in Fort Cochin area, which is around 10 kms / half an hour drive from Ernakulam City. Will take around 3 – 4 hrs for Cochin sight seeing.







DUTCH PALACE


This palace is also known as Mattancherry Palace. Built by Portuguese in 1555 AD. The Palace was renovated by in 1663 by the Dutch and got the present name. The Palace houses beautiful murals, royal costumes, palanquins, Dutch maps of old Kochi, three dimensional portrait of Maharaja

JEWISH SYNAGOGUE


Constructed in 1568, this is the oldest synagogue in the Commonwealth. Known for mid 18th century hand painted, willow patterned floor tiles from China, a clock tower, Hebrew inscriptions on stone slabs, great scrolls of the Old Testament, ancient scripts on copper plates etc.

MARINE DRIVE


Marine Drive is considered to be one of the most beautiful parts of the city. It is built facing the backwaters, and is a popular hangout for the local populace. Ironic to its name, no vehicles are allowed on the walkway. Boating facilities available there, both common and exclusive boats available

ST.FRANCIS CHURCH


The Protestant church was originally built by Portuguese in 1503 AD and is believed to be the oldest church built by the Europeans in India. This was initially built of timber and later reconstructed in stone masonry. It was restored in 1779 by Protestant Dutch, converted to an Anglican church by the British in 1795.








MUNNAR


Munnar is one of the most popular hill stations in South India. It is located 1600 Metres above sea level and which is the confluence of three mountain streams – Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala. Once it was the summer resort of British government in South India and it is really a breathtakingly beautiful tourist destination in God’s own country.  Unending expanse of tea plantations, valleys and mountains, exotic species of Flora and Fauna are the salient features of Munnar . Among the exotic species of Flora, one of the highlight is the Neelakurinji, which blooms only in every 12 years.  When the flower blooms  it seems the valleys and meadows are all painted in blue.  Munnar also has the highest peak in South India, Anamudi, which towers over 2695 meter above sea level.



ERAVIKULAM NATIONAL PARK

Eravikulam National Park is around 15 kms from Munnar town and it is the natural habitat of the Nilghiri Thar. It is the first and largest national park in kerala. The national park is managed by the Kerala Department of Forest and Wildlife, Munnar. Apart from Tahr, other little known animals such as Nilgiri marten, small clawed otter, ruddy mongoose, and dusky striped squirrel are also found. Elephants make seasonal visits.

MATTUPPETTY DAM


located 13 km from Munnar, situated at a height of 1700 meters above sea level and it is a delight for nature lovers. Mattupetty offers many fascinating sights to relish. One of the main attractions in Mattupetty is the beautiful lake, and the Mattupetty Dam, which are ideal picnic spots. The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC), Idukki provides boating facilities in the Mattupetty Dam. Speed launch, slow speedboat and motorboats are available on hire.

ECO POINT


It’s around 4 kms after Mattupetty town. This place gets its name from the natural Echo phenomenon. It’s noted for 2 acres of evergreen forest upon a huge rock. The rock is more than 500 acres in area. Echo Point is fully covered with abundant green sceneries which looks like a whole place covered with green blanket. It is the ideal place for nature walks and trekking.

KUNDALA LAKE

The sprawling Kundala tea plantations and Kundala lake are other attractions in the vicinity. It is a picturesque place, around 6 kms after Echo point. There is an artificial dam in Kundala which is the major attraction here. Kashmiri shikkara boats and row boats are available on rent. Horse ride also available. A Golf Course is located here which belongs to Tata Tea Ltd.








KOVALAM

Thiruvananthapuram located at the southern tip of India. It is bounded by Arabian Sea in the west and Tamil Nadu in the east. A long shoreline, with internationally renowned beaches (Kovalam –  just 15 kms away), historic monuments, backwater stretches and a rich cultural heritage make this district a much sought – after tourist destination. Thiruvanathapuram is the capital of Kerala.Palm-backed beaches also include Hawa Beach and Samudra Beach. Heading south, Vizhinjam Juma Masjid mosque overlooks the busy fishing harbor. Inland, Sagarika Marine Research Aquarium displays technology used in pearl production







PADMANABHA SWAMY TEMPLE


The temple is located in the East fort. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu the temple is a blend of the Kerala and Dravidian styles of architecture. It is known for its mural paintings and stone carvings. One among the 108 sacred Vishnu Temples in India, the presiding deity here is Lord Vishnu reclinig on Anantha, the serpent. Only Hindus are allowed inside the temple.

SREE CHITHRA ART GALLERY

The Palace was built by Maharaja swathi Thirunal Balarama varma – the King of Travancore, who was a great poet, musician, social reformer and statesman. This rare specimen of workmanship in the traditional Travancore style of architecture also has exquisite wood carvings. The palace museum displays paintings and various priceless collections of the royal family.

KUTHIRAMALIKA PALACE MUSEUM

NAPIER MUSEUM

Built in 19th century, this Indo – saracenic structure boasts a natural air conditioning system and houses a rare collection of archeological and historic artfacts, bronze idols, ancient ornaments, a temple chariot and ivory carvings.




WAYANAD


Wayanad is a hill station at North Kerala. The name Wayanad is derived from Vayal Nadu which means the land of paddy fields. It is a picturesque plateau situated at a height between 700 meters and 2100 meters above sea level nested among the mountains of the Western Ghats on the Eastern portion of North Kerala and on the sides of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka States. About 885.92.sq.km of area is under forest. The culture of Wayanad is mainly tribal oriented. Though considered as backward, this District is perhaps one of the biggest foreign exchange earners of the State, with its production of cash crops like Pepper, Cardamom, Coffee, Tea, Spices and other condiments.







POOKOTE LAKE


Set in a beautiful valley and surrounded by evergreen forests and wooded hills, Pookote is one of Wayanad’s top visitor draws. This natural lake near Lakkidi is just a short distance off the NationalHighway212. 

SENTINEL ROCK FALLS 


Locally known as Soochipara, this is a very porular leisure destination. While younger visitors love to romp in the pool formed at the foot of the fall, the more restrained can have equally good fun just taking in the scenery.

KURUVA ISLAND


The Kuruva Island with the 950 acres of evergreen forests lies on one of the tributaries of the River Kabani This calm and peaceful Island is home to a variety of birds, butterflies and orchids.

SUN RISE VALLEY


As the name indicates, Sunrise valley is great place to watch the rising and setting sun amidst dramatic mountain scenery. The place also offers a panoramic view of the valley beneath with the river chaliyar meandering along gracefully








THATTEKKAD


The Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary, also called Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary is the first and one of the famous Bird-Sanctuaries of Kerala. It has dense tropical evergreen forest and a population of over 500 species of exotic birds. Dr. Salim Ali, one of the best known ornithologists has described this sanctuary as “the richest bird habitat on peninsular India”. The sanctuary covers an area of 25 sq. km. stretching between the branches of river Periyar.  A  rich varieties of butterflies are also present here. Several species of birds, both forest birds as well as the water birds, visit here. It is also a habitat for different varieties of cuckoos and  so called “Cuckoo Paradise”:

The natural water bodies inside the 25-km sq km are ideal hang-outs for both resident and migratory birds. It is recommended to visit the sanctuary between October and March.




THEKKADY


Thekkady, also known as Periyar which is one of India’s most fascinating natural wildlife sanctuaries, where you can watch wildlife at close range. The vegetation, the flora and fauna and the birds of Thekkady are uniquely rich, vast and varied. The word Thekkady conjures up images of elephants, unending chains of hills and spice scented plantations.  Nearest town is Kumaly which around 5 kms  away.

Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary : The Periyar Tiger Reserve, named after the Periyar river, is one of Kerala’s prestigious possessions on the High Ranges of the Western Ghats. Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary spread across 777 sq.km, of which 360 sq.km is thick evergreen forest. It was declared as a Tiger Reserve in 1978. The splendid artificial lake formed by the Mullaperiyar Dam across the Periyar River adds to the charm of the park. This is the only sanctuary in India where you can have the unique experience of viewing wildlife at close quarters from the safety of a boat on the lake.

KUMARAKAM


Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary : is popular among bird watchers and nature lovers. Many rare varieties of birds especially seasonal birds can be seen there.The best way to watch the birds of the Kumarakom sanctuary is a boat trip round the islands. It is spread over 14 acres of lush green vegetation.

Houseboat : One of the most preferred ways to get close to the backwater life in Kerala is the houseboat stay. In the early days houseboats, which is also known as Kettuvallom, were used for the transport goods (a standard kettuvallom can hold up to 30 tones) from the isolated interior villages to the towns. With the advent of roads, bridges and ferry services, gradually the Kettuvalloms went off the scene. Now these kettuvalloms are back again as a major tourist attraction. A houseboat is about 67 feet in length and has a width of around 13 feet in the middle. The materials that go into the making are local and eco friendly; bamboo poles, coconut fiber, ropes, bamboo mats, carpets etc. The main wood used is “Anjili”. There are houseboats with fully furnished single room to six rooms. All of them have a living area with comfortable chairs, kitchen and bedroom with attached toilet. In addition there is a separate rest room for the crew. Many of the boats are equipped with solar lighting, chemical toilets and outboard engines. The crew includes a chef, and two oarsmen. The cuisine is of traditional Kerala flavour




ALAPPUZHA


Alappuzha :  also known as Alleppey backwaters, is a landmark between the broad Arabian sea and a web of rivers flowing into it.  Alappuzha is famous for the beautiful backwaters surrounding it. The backwaters with water birds and flowers and greenery of paddy fields along their banks are a beautiful and refreshing sight.

Alleppey Beach : Alappuzha beach is a popular picnic spot. The beach has a small park nearby called Vijaya beach park. Remains of Alappuzha Sea Bridge, which is in ruins, are still there as a memory of the good old days when Alappuzha port was one of the most famous and important ports in Kerala. The Sea Bridge enabled the passage of goods came via ships. There is also an old lighthouse nearby which is greatly fascinating to visitors.

CHERAI BEACH


Cherai Beach is around 30 kms away from Cochin city & railway station and around 35 kms away from Cochin International Airport (other direction)The 15 km long golden Beach is very clean, shallow and is ideal for swimming, surfing and sunbathing. The newly beautified main beach has a walkway and High mask lamps which make the beach enjoyable even at night. Trained security staff are present round-the-clock in the beach. The Beach is safe and tourists of all age groups can enjoy the Beach alike.

The place is a unique combination of sea and backwaters rimmed by lush green coconut palms and paddy fields. The backwaters are a combination of lakes, lagoons, canals and estuaries. The main attraction of Cherai is the ‘Poyil’ a large inland lake forming a part of the calm serene backwaters separated from the ocean by only a narrow sandbar.






VARKALA


Varkala Beach, also known as Papanasam beach  located around 50 kms  north-west of Trivandrum. The word Papanasam means wash away sins. It is believed that a dip in the waters of Papanasam Beach washes away all the sins in one’s life.  Varkala beach is the only place in southern Kerala where cliffs are found adjacent to the Arabian Sea.Varkala is also famous for the 2000 year old Sree Janardhana Swami Temple. Also Famous Shivagiri mutt is another important attraction.

It’s on the Arabian Sea and known for Varkala Beach, backed by palm-covered red cliffs. Just south, Papanasam Beach is believed to have holy waters. On a nearby hill, the ancient Janardanaswamy Temple is a Hindu pilgrimage site dedicated to Vishnu. Farther inland, the Sivagiri Mutt monument memorializes the social reformer Sree Narayana Guru, who is buried here.
